Shekou Port

The Shekou Fishing Port, located in the southern end of Shekou Sub-district, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, is the last urban commercial fishing port in the city. It borders Shenzhen Bay, faces Hong Kong across the sea, and is near the Western Corridor and Shenzhen Bay Port to the East, and Shekou Passenger Port and Prince Bay to the West.

The project aims to transform the fishing port into a world-leading marine capital, integrating modern fishing port functions, and related high-standard supporting facilities, urban-coastal leisure experiences, and new tourism attractions. This upgrade seeks to preserve local fishery culture while seamlessly integrating the port into the urban fabric, complementing it with open green spaces and connecting the linear pedestrian coastal connector along the water edge.

The project vision, “Floating Ribbon by the Sea: Upholding our Past, Investing in our Future,” carefully conserves local culture, introduces new functions, and minimizes the ecological impact while retaining the fishing port’s sea-view corridor.

It enhances the recreational life of residents by separating it from the vehicular circulation of the port and pier and integrating it within the new finishing market structure. The ribbon design concept interweaves three strands: the “Culture Ribbon,” connecting fisherman-inspired functions such as a New Fish Market, Street Food stalls, Cloud Restaurant, Cloud Garden, and Fishing Culture Museum which also performs the function of a Bridge over the port water entrance; the “Water Ribbon,” the port water body, linking vessels berths, Port Offices, Floating Restaurants, and the temporary Floating open-air stage; and the “Nature Ribbon,” that reconnect segments of the beautiful 15-kilometer Nanshan landscaped coast promenade and closes the local waterfront surrounding the port. The revitalized port aims to become the “new living room of the community” and a world attraction in the Nanshan district.
