Yuzhong District, Changbin Rd Area Renewal

The Urban Renewal of Changbin Road Area in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, aims to transform the oldest part of the city into a modern, sustainable, and vibrant district. The comprehensive urban redevelopment project includes an overall master plan to enhance the city’s image, promote industrial development, expand open spaces and green corridors, restore historical landmarks, connect areas to the river, and revitalize aging buildings. The vision is to create an international, green, intelligent, and human-centric modern district.

Covering a 60-hectare area, the project comprises five implementation projects along Changbin Road and one around Jiefang East Road, adjacent to significant sites such as Huguang Guild Hall, Dongshuimen Historical and Cultural District, and Yuantong Temple.

The project embraces the concept of the Metaverse “Yuan Session,” combining the physical world, augmented reality, and the Internet to accommodate the past, present, and future. Eight spatial value coordinates—personality, gathering and communication, openness, connectivity, diversity, sustainability, flexible space, and information volume—guide the urban and architectural design principles. These principles redefine zoning, evaluate development directions, and shape the architectural form of each district.

The ancient city wall acts as a connecting thread, integrating distinct urban spaces across time and allowing for the convergence of history and the future. The result is a cohesive urban fabric that blends highlands and waterfront areas, diverse cultures, and cultural innovation, creating a “Cloud” Chongqing enriched with technological ambiance.
